In my family, it wasn't the shopping that got pushed back 'til Christmas Eve, it was the wrapping (we do "family Christmas" on Christmas Eve and Santa on Christmas morning). After we all participated in the Live Nativity Scene and had Christmas Eve Communion, we would go back to our house where my parents would quarantine my brother, sister, and me to the living room and kitchen so they could quickly wrap everything. It was my job, as the oldest, to keep everyone else occupied. It turned into such a tradition that the year I got my license, Jonathan, Anna, and I drove around tiny Fayette, AL for an hour looking at Christmas lights just so my Mom and Dad could get it all done. With the exception of last year (since I was with my own new in-laws) we have done the same ever since. I can't wait to bring my husband along this year - hooray for procrastinating traditions!

Andy, I've never gotten it. Ever. I'm with you: Christmas Eve works. Or better yet, online! My poor brother-in-law experienced his first Black Friday as a blue-shirted employee of Best Buy, and said he felt like he'd driven across the country to your neck of the woods. Insane. No thanks, I'll stay home.
